Blogging about AI

Hossein M. Bojnordi : I think useful discussion can be done, on top of its philosophical framework, with the actual knowledge of the technology.

Noam Chomsky once said, software’s comprised of lines of code, whether be ten lines or ten billions lines of code!

My fundamental problem is what is self-awareness? And what “is” that we think is important about advanced mammalians’ self-awareness?

I can think of these: •••Biological life on earth aged about 4 billions years (maybe longer if its origins is the outer space). Biological life has been formed by a total integration with the physical world which known to be, in my order, elementary particles (or fields, most of the time they are better described by fields), atoms and molecules (chemical elements), chemical biology, (and without clear borders) formation of nerves systems and brains, More advanced brains (self-aware and more self-aware brains like in birds, cats and dogs, monkeys, dolphins, slow or retarded humans (sapians or other cousins), with a slight improvement—average human (right now, I’m thinking of kind of consumerist, simple-minded eat sex compete and be entertained. Sorry there isn’t such a thing as blank slate, however that education and upbringing are important), and finally—entities that think in terms of abstract concepts and structures—those entities are relatively closer to...

••• I think current computational systems aren’t those that want to be self-aware! Of course I don’t exactly know what are missing, but I can make you think in few directions: •• I think we better not underestimate Roger Penrose’s ideas about involvement of other realms of physical world namely quantum mechanics’ phenomenas of “superposition” states, “entanglement” of states of particles despite their distances (increasingly it is believed that the fabrique of space-time is not fundamental and it probably arised from a more fundamental relations.)—So maybe a direction be research in an AI system that integrated quantum computation components and algorithms, and also as I said before, be more integrated with the natural world (inspired by animals’ brains and its evolutionary paths, chemically, biologically and psychologically).
